The demographic profile of those at risk of poverty
The risk of poverty differs substantially between social groups with different characteristics (age, gender and household situation) and different labour market circumstances (employed/not employed, in low-paid or well-paid jobs). These factors also underlie variations in the risk of poverty between countries, though differences in institutional aspects, including in the operation of labour markets and social policies, especially the tax and benefit system in place (examined elsewhere), are equally important.
